  The Bell rang 29 times at their memorial service, once for each crew member.

  The Fitz was built by Great Lakes Engineering Works and took over 1,000 men to build

She was christened June 8, 1958 and launched June 17, 1958 inot the Detroit River.

She was 729 feet long, had a 75 ft beam and a depth of 39 feet and a load capacity of 30,000 tons.

At the time the Fitz was the largest freighter on the great lakes.
